Treatment of Termites

Several options are available for the treatment of termites. You can opt to use Liquid termite treatments , you can make use of pest control mechanisms such as termiticides and insecticides, or termite granules and dusts.

Termite infestations are usually immense by the time they are detected, hence the treatment of termites are usually done by professionals. Fumigation is one of effective ways of termite treatments but the use of specialized tools, equipments and chemicals have really made the treatment of termites a risky and enormous one. Fumigation is effective in the treatment of termites but it is expensive, while the procedures are lengthy. It involves tenting the diseased structure, evacuating residents, and pumping a fumigant into the spoiled wood.

Insecticides seem to be a better option to fumigation. Insecticides can be applied directly to destroy drywood termites in wood structures. You can do this by drilling small holes in infested wood and pumping chemicals through the holes, the termites would be totally destroyed between 1-5 months of insecticide treatment of termites. Insecticide treatment of termites can also be used to prevent termites from moving to other areas of the affected structure.

Insecticide treatment of termites could be extremely poisonous as they leave chemical residuals in some treated areas of structures. Hence home structures such as carpets, rugs should be certified safe before the re-occupation of treated buildings. Termites are better treated just before a home is built or during construction.

Home treatment of termites can be done by adding 1-2 ounces of citrus oil to 1-2 liters of warm water and spraying or painting it directly on to wood surfaces.
