Signs of Termites

Termites normally stay below the surface of wood, hence it might be difficult to notice any signs of termites infestation in some areas of your home. You can however notice signs of termites infestation through some visible darkening and blistering properties of some wood. If you pick up the piece of wood and you discover that it can be easily poked through or it looks hollow and thin when you tap unto it, then you should be aware of termite infestations.

The most visible signs of termites are the pellets which are which are small and granular in shape and come white or black colours, they may also be found in small holes in wooden walls, baseboards and beams. One of the signs of subterranean termites are the formation of mud tubes which they build across surfaces that they cannot burrow through. These tubes are brown in colour and has a measurement of about the diameter of a pencil, they are often located on exterior walls, support beams or in crawl spaces.

The most visible sign of the infestation of subterranean termites is when a swamp of flying winged termites are always attracted to a particular place within your environment. Light sources from windows, vents, doors may keep flying termites always invading your home. An easy way to check for signs of termites (drywood termites and dampwood termites ) is to tap wood along the wall with a metal instrument, it such wood gives hollow sound and crack after some minutes, there might have been a serious termite attack on it.

Checking for signs of termites infestation can be very simple, the early signs of termite infestation on wood are quite visible with surface wood becoming rusty and sometimes termite eggs are laid directly under such woods. If you notice that the woods around you are getting unnecessarily drying up, then you need to watch out for the signs of termites, check if the thickness of such woods are reducing and if there are any colour changes, termites infestation may cause a sudden reduction in the physical appearances such as colour and texture.
