How to Kill Termites

There are several ways of eliminating Termites from your environment, especially from your home. One of the most effective ways of killing termites is the use of baits. The old primitive way of killing termites is to tie up some rags at the top of a piece of log and dip the log in a container of a volatile oil, light it up on fire and then place it among the termites. This system can only keep away termites for some time, or can even burn out a colony but the termites will find their way back after sometime.

Some ancient countries also believe that the spraying of salt on termite colonies will kill them off. This is only for some time as well. Salt has a lethal effect on termites but it will not offer a permanent solution for effective elimination of termites. Some of the few modern ways by which you can eliminate termite colonies today is are the use of baits and treated in-ground woods.

Termite baits involved the injection of slow but active chemicals in Cellulose or wood which is the primary source of food for Termites. When Termite workers for instance feed on these baits, they share the food with other members of the colony, and when the other groups of the colony such as the reproductives and soldiers eat these food, the whole colony is poisoned and destroyed.

One other method of eliminating Termite is the use of "In-ground stations". These are untreated wood that are buried in a soil containing Termites. When you discovered that Termites are feeding on these untreated woods, then you can replace them with treated woods. You can coat the untreated wood with baits and place them near a moist wood to attract the Termites. Once they start to feed on the treated wood, the toxic chemicals will kill them off.

You must be aware that Termite baits take a longer time to kill Termites than Termicides, and the Termites must consume a sufficient amount of the bait treated woods before they are killed, thus you must sufficient spray the bait on every part of the wood.

The use of Termite baits to kill Termites has two main advantages which are; baits are environmental friendly, they are required in lesser quantities than Termicides, hence the risk of environmental contamination is greatly reduced. Secondly, Termite baits do not give much noises when used for Termite destruction. They are cheaper than Termicides and can be used for a longer period of time to kill off Termites.

Common Termite baits you can find around include ; First Line Termite Defense System which is also known as "sulfluramid", Outpost Termite Bait Response, which is also known as "diflubenzuron" and Termite Colony Elimination System which is also known as "hexaflumuron", and many others. The use of these Termite baits require that you approach a professional to advise you on how best you can apply them. If you can’t handle these chemicals, it is better to hire a professional.
